Mike Smith
Jack Schraub, Carol Borghini, Craig Morton, Peggy Ray, Ron Oburn, and me, Mike Smith..
I went to San Jose State on a basketball scholarship, ruined my knee, and like a big baby did not rehab the way I was supposed to. I played semi-pro baseball for the Humboldt Crabs, and since they didn't pay us, but got us a local job, I went to work at that time for Safeway Stores, Inc. and found out I really liked it. I stayed with it in different management positions. I met and married my wife Shirley in 1969.
I transferred back to the Bay Area in 1983. I left Safeway in 1987 after the company went through a leveraged buy out, invested with some friends in the
Cost Plus Stores, and held senior retail management positions with start up retail companies in California. I retired in 2004 as the senior vice president of retail operations for Swanson Farms. (TV Dinners?)
We currently live in Concord, Ca and have one son, Christopher, and two granddaughters, Madison and Violet. (ages 6 & 4), a 190 lb Saint Bernard, Mckinley, who is a better baby-sitter than my wife and I. In 1962,
would you guys have believed we would be this old? Everybody has ups and downs in life. I am no exception, but I would not change a thing...See you in September...(Wasn't that a song??)
