Lynda Smith reminded me recently of the mantra in my bio for our 50th reunion in 2012: |

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty

In the 8 years since we last met, I am happy to report that there has continued to be a lot of skidding in broadside where travel and photography are concerned. I usually go to Hawaii annually (2 Kona beaches below). I also go to various places in Mexico about 4 times a year, being enamored of the old colonial cities and artisanal festivals and traditions.
The 3 photos above are of of Mexico, Cabo San Lucas pano after a storm; King Pakal’s Tomb in Palinque Chiapas, 638AD rivals Napoleon (left) Queen of Corn Festival in Cuetzalan, Puebla. (right)
Most recently, I was in Venice, Italy for Carnevale in February on a photo workshop during the height of the C19 epidemic and didn’t get it.
December I was in Egypt for three weeks. I loved old Fatimid Cairo, Karnak/Luxor & Aswan. Fabulous antiquities everywhere. The Egyptians are on a roll trying to out-Dubai Dubai! I have been to Norway, and twice to Greenland and Iceland .. I took the Trans-Siberian Railroad from Moscow to Mongolia to Vladivostok, then flew to Seoul Korea in May 2017. We were in Ekaterinburg for VE Day celebrations. Took the Trans-Canada Rails from Vancouver to Montreal in October for fall colors.
I have done two medical-dental missions: one to Mendoza Argentina; the other to Nairobi Kenya, followed by a safari on the Masai Mara. I have toured the Australian outback to Uluru and Kakadoo. I have taken several trips to China, one to Tibet, and two to SE Asia. I have cruised all of the major oceans, including trips from Lima to London and Hong Kong to Athens. I have seen the Butchart Gardens in Victoria BC in all four seasons and eaten spectacular food everywhere. The best Bloody Mary ever is in Yarnell AZ!
I am so glad to have had the opportunity of experiencing these wonderful places as, alas, the world has now changed and the risks/inconveniences to my aging body may mitigate against much future foreign travel. I am not willing to sit in an airport hotel for a two week quarantine before being allowed to go where I want in France, etc. Our class has lived in an amazing time. How lucky we have been! I look forward to more photography, reading, cooking, gardening and travel in North America which should become manageable. The skids may not be so broadside with this agenda, but then I’m not moving quite as fast as I used to! Wishing you health, wealth and grand adventures, Adda Quinn - August 2020.
